About Trevor

Hey all,

I picked up the running bug in January 2016. Before then I would run Warrior Dash Ontario yearly with friends, and by run, I mean walk. In 2015 I attempted Tough Mudder Ontario, walking most of it again, and loved the thrill.

I got into running because I was competing in a bodybuilding transformation challenge, and used swimming and running as cardio exercises. I was using a 9 week couch to 5km program. After I reached 5km, I decided, why not try to run 10km. I continued onto a new couch to 10km program.

My first organized 5km run was the 2016 OutrunCF Cystic Fibrosis charity run on April 10 (27 min). I then signed up and ran my first organized 10km run which was the 2016 Run for Southlake charity run benefiting Southlake Regional Health Centre on May 1 (72 min).

During this training I was consistently swimming, and working on improving my swimming endurance and efficiency. This is when I caught the thought, let's try a triathlon! I have always been great on the bicycle, using it for commuting and for exercise, my swimming is great, and I just finished a 10 km!

I did some research and found an early (June) local race which offers the distance of Try-a-Tri. I signed up and committed to the journey. It was two weeks later, I could complete the try-a-tri distances and thought, I'm going to love this sport, why not sign up for a sprint triathlon. With a little more research, and 20 minutes, I was signed up for the Kingston K-Town Triathlon.

After a summer consisting of two Try-a-Tri triathlons, and a sprint distance triathlon, I was hooked. I knew that my next goal, is an Ironman 140.6. Because I had not run farther than about 12 km, and the Ironman includes a marathon, I signed up for the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon. Between Kingston sprint triathlon and October, I had 2 months of specific run focused training to reach my goal of running a half marathon. Which I was successful with a time of 2:33.

This blog is the trials and tribulations of my journey to completing my first Ironman 140.6 in August 2017 at Mont Tremblant and beyond.

Thank you for stopping by,

Trevor
